We all know that Aamir Khan will be seen as wrestler and coach Mahavir Singh Phogat in upcoming movie Dangal which is a biopic on the latter. Before the film hits the big screen, an authorised biography on the journey of Mahavir Singh Phogat will hit the book stands in December.

The biography titled Akhada: The Authorized Biography of Mahavir Singh Phogat has been written by Saurabh Duggal and published by Hachette India. The publisher says that the book tells the story of a father who fought against all odds to give his daughters Olympians Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari – a future they could not have dreamed for themselves.

Talking about the biography and the upcoming biopic, Mahavir Singh Phogat said that it has often been a struggle to get wrestling the attention and recognition it deserves in India, particularly women’s wrestling. He would be extremely happy if his daughters’ and his story, narrated through this book and adapted by Aamir Khan in Dangal, can help wrestlers get their due. He hopes this inspires many others – both men and women – to get into this sport and make a name for themselves, as well as motivates parents to believe in their daughters.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal features Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra and is releasing on December 23.
