Here’s how Krish came on board for Kangna’s Manikarnika

While there have been reports about Kangna Ranaut playing the Queen of Jhansi for more than a year now, a recent change in the project fuelled up several speculations about the film. The film initially titled Rani Laxmibai was an ambitious project of Ketan Mehta as he was planning to revive the same for years. In a sudden turn of events, the project soon changed hands with Krish as the director and the film was rechristened as Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi.

The first step to the same has already been taken, with Kangna Ranaut launching the first poster of Manikarnika amidst much fanfare in Varanasi, where the queen was born. Reportedly, Krish, who is excited about the film, recently asserted that he wasn’t aware much about the project before he came on board and did not divulge much about Ketan Mehta’s exit from the same. All he knows is that he joined the team with a fresh script that was written by Bahubali writer K V Vijayendra Prasad.

Interestingly, in his own words, Krish revealed that this will be his third period film (after Kanche and Gautamiputra Satakarni in Telugu). Readers may recall that Krish had made his Bollywood debut with the Akshay Kumar starrer Gabbar Is Back, a remake of the Tamil film Ramanna.

On the other hand, Kangna had earlier mentioned that she would want to don the director’s hat post this film. Talking about whether he will be open to suggestions by her on the sets of the film, Krish maintained that whatever suggestions one has it will be in best interest for the film, hence, he was open to everyone’s ideas. He also further appreciated Kangna’s talent adding that she would be a good director too. At the same time, he also believed that she was  a great actress and that she should continue acting at least in her own productions.

Speaking about Manikarnika, Krish stated that the film will go on floor in mid-June in Madhya Pradesh but, before that, there will be several workshops and reading sessions as a part of the prep.
