OMG! Now Arjun Kapoor jumps into the nepotism debate

The nepotism controversy has once again grabbed eyeballs. It all started in March earlier this year when Kangna Ranaut appeared on Karan Johar’s popular chat show, ‘Koffee With Karan’. The actress, during the rapid fire round, jokingly commented that Karan is the ‘flag bearer of nepotism.’ Karan, after a few weeks, made his displeasure clear with Kangna’s statements and also added that he’s done with the actress playing the victim card. Kangna refused to take it lying down and gave it back to KJo with a long column in a tabloid.

The ugly episode was forgotten in a way but it came back in news during the recently concluded IIFA Awards 2017 held in New York. Karan Johar along with his ‘student’ Varun Dhawan and actor Saif Ali Khan, who incidentally was also a part of the same episode of the controversial show ‘Koffee With Karan’, came together and mocked Kangna over her remarks. They collectively even proclaimed that “Nepotism rocks.”

These comments however were not taken well by the moviegoers. Many expressed their anger on social media and even trolled the filmmaker and the actors. Reacting to the same, Varun and Karan even apologized about the same.

Belonging to a filmy family, Arjun Kapoor who made his debut in 2012, recently was asked about his opinion on the same. The actor has often been accused of getting opportunities in Bollywood easily, thanks to his father Boney Kapoor, a successful film producer. When asked to comment on the debate around nepotism, the actor said that it exists in every field. He admitted that he did get the initial opportunity because of his father but after that, it was only due to the love from audience that he has managed to sustain since five years. He assured that there are no degrees in the film industry and that everyone gets that one chance to prove themselves. Adding that talent is the biggest qualification, he concluded by saying that no one buys a ticket or offers work because of one’s surname.

Not just his father, but his uncle, Anil Kapoor, is also a successful Bollywood star. Incidentally, Arjun will be featuring with Anil Kapoor in Mubarakan, a comic caper that has Arjun in double role. It is directed by Anees Bazmee and also stars Athiya Shetty, Ileana DCruz among others. It is all set to release on July 28.
