“I was not trying to create that Shah Rukh-ness in Jab Harry Met Sejal” – Imtiaz Ali

Shah Rukh Khan is popularly also known as the king of romance. He has a typical style of romancing his ladies that has become a trademark of sorts and also one of the big reasons behind his fan following, among the ladies especially. But in his upcoming film Jab Harry Met Sejal, that typical romantic Shah Rukh Khan seems missing. At the launch of the song ‘Hawayein’, a journalist asked Imtiaz if has tried to create the ‘Shah Rukh Khan-ness’, as he described the phenomena, in his film.

The answer given by Imtiaz Ali is quite impressive. He said, “I was very aware and even made aware of the typical Shah Rukh-ness when I went to shoot the film. I have known him personally over the years and so, I already had an impression about Shah Rukh Khan the person and Shah Rukh Khan the actor. I have obviously seen many of his films and admire him. But while shooting, I wasn’t trying to create that Shah Rukh-ness nor telling him to not come up with it. This is because I realized that the Shah Rukh-ness is a by-product of Shah Rukh Khan. I felt that it was unnecessary and even stupid to tell him not to be himself.”

Jab Harry Met Sejal releases on August 4 and has Anushka Sharma opposite Shah Rukh Khan, who incidentally started her career opposite the superstar in 2008 with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Both also came together, along with Katrina Kaif, in Yash Chopra’s 2012 swan song Jab Tak Hai Jaan. And all three of them – Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif – will be seen in Aanand L. Rai’s untitled film that releases on Christmas 2018.
