Alia Bhatt explains how donating denims will help animals

It is a well-known fact that Gen Y star Alia Bhatt is an animal lover. The actress, who owns quite a number of pets, is a self-confessed dog and cat lover and has joined hands with the organization Coexist that works towards benefit of animals for their various campaigns. From helping a turtle return to its habitat to finding shelters for strays via adoption, Alia has time and again extended her support for animal welfare and the actress is all set to do the same by starting up a new initiative.

In association with Coexist, the new campaign that focuses on the welfare of street cats and dogs, Alia Bhatt has started a denim donation drive across different cities in India. Talking about the same, the actress said, “Something as simple as cleaning out your closet could actually help save lives.” She further added, “Motopaws, a youth led initiative that uses old denims to create reflective collars for street dogs. This makes it easier for motorists to see the dogs from a distance and helps prevent accidents.”

Denim forms the base of the collar which is then covered by waterproof fabric and topped with retro reflective tape. Approved by vets, the collar has no harmful effects on dogs or humans.

“Street dogs have no safe shelter and are sometimes injured or run over by motorists especially at night, due to low visibility. Through this campaign we shall focus on building a safer environment for our Indies,” stated Alia.

The denim donation drive will be held across multiple cities such as Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Delhi, Dehradun, Goa, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur, Kokrajhar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Mumbai, Mysore, Pune, Shimoga, Surat and Vishakhapatnam.  While donation boxes are placed across Mumbai and Pune, donors from other cities could get in touch with the Motopaws representative in their city and the details of the same are available on their official website.
