Nawazuddin Siddiqui refuses to chop his hair short for Vishal Bharadwaj’s film!Nawazuddin Siddiqui Few have the courage to say no to a filmmaker of Vishal Bharadwaj’s calibre is a director who is known to give great looks to and pull off fabulous performances from his artistes. In Omkara he made Saif Ali Khan chop off his hair and pull off one of the star’s best roles in his career with the stubble. In Haider, he got Shahid Kapoor to go bald for the first time. But one actor who has put his foot down is Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The two were to do a film together and there were reports that the film got postponed as they had creative differences – but here is the truth behind what really happened! The actor told Vishal, who is producing the film, a flat no when the filmmaker asked him to chop his hair very short for their film titled Padeeu, which is being directed by Aditya Nimbalkar, who assisted the filmmaker in films such as Kaminey, Haider and Rangoon.

Says a source from the film’s creative team, “Vishal Bharadwaj and Nawazuddin Siddiqui were working in a film called Padeeu together, but they apparently had fights over certain creative issues. But the real reason was because Nawaz refused to shave his hair for the character as Vishal wanted him to for continuity issues. Vishal’s film goes on floor from January next year and Nawaz felt as he is shooting for other films including Ritesh Batra’s The Photographer with Sanya Malhotra and for the web series The Sacred Games with Saif Ali Khan, hence Nawaz felt he could not shoot for anything else, if he cut his hair so short (almost like a stubble). He thought that would be unfair to his producers, even though he loves to work on his looks too for his characters.”

The source adds, “Both stubbornly stuck to their ways though they had been working together and even had workshops for the last four months. Vishal likes a certain look for his characters and they have always worked out excellently for his actors so he could not understand why Nawaz was being so adamant about it. Vishal from his view was right as the film, a comedy drama, is about a simple, rustic teacher from a small town set in Mussoorie and Nawaz’s long, curly locks would not suit the character and would make him look too stylish. Finally both agreed to part ways amicably. Now the film has been kept on hold till Vishal finds another hero. Nawaz lost out on Vishal’s film but he was right too as he could not lose out on three more films for just one film as there would have been serious continuity problems in them.”

Despite several efforts to reach them, Vishal and Nawazuddin remained unavailable for comment.
