Two years back there was a buzz in the B-town that Sanjay Dutt and Madhavan would be coming together for a political thriller titled Freedom. However, with no real developments taking place, the film was forgotten. Meanwhile both actors too moved on to their other assignments while Vivek Agnihotri, who was supposed to direct the film, too got occupied with films like Hate Story and Buddha In A Traffic Jam. Circa 2012 and things are picking up again, what with the director all set to revive the film.

“Yes, Freedom has been pulled out of the backburner”, confirms our well placed source, “The film is definitely happening and there would be an official announcement soon. The beauty of the subject is that it stays on to be as topical as ever since it starts in the 70s and then moves to the current times. Thankfully despite a two year waiting period, a subject like this has not been explored. Hence, it would retain its originality and freshness.”

However, one waits to see whether the original cast would be retained since equations have changed over the time period gone by. While Madhavan is still on board, it is unclear whether Sanjay Dutt would stay on with the project. One does feel though that it would be nothing less than a casting coup of sorts if the two actors indeed come together.

“While Madhavan was always a part of the film, Sanju’s presence in it was tentative”, the source clarifies, “He hadn’t signed on the dotted line. Anyways, the ball is in Vivek’s court now since the producers have also changed. He is no more making the film with Reliance, the original producers. It is going to be his creative call around the final cast.”

In fact those in the know-how of the film also add that the film won’t be centered on just two male leads and there would be more stars added to the cast as well. What is clear though is that the film would most certainly get made now.

“Yes, I want to go back to Freedom and Madhavan is most definitely a part of that. Since this is a huge biopic, I would need more stars. I have already spoken to a few other people. It is only after things finalize can I reveal more”, informs Vivek.
