Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart… Imtiaz Ali has found a new passion project: not a film that he has written or directed, but one that he has fallen in love with so much that he is presenting the film. The film is called Dekh Indian Circus, the second film of National award winning director Mangesh Hadawale, who had earlier won universal acclaim for his debut Tingya. With Imtiaz backing the film, it has come as a shot in the arm for the makers. Over to Imtiaz.

How did you get associated with Dekh Indian Circus?
The real reason is that the makers of Dekh Indian Circus approached me to gain some publicity for their film. However, I did tell them that my decision would be based purely on the nature of the film and its content. When I saw the film, it seemed quite well meaning to me. I realised that the film was quite entertaining with the director ensuring that not one frame was extra and not one performance was bad. To me, Dekh Indian Circus is a great film.

You sound impressed.
See, the beauty of the film is that it is very modern and beautiful; it is one of those few films made in rural India. Otherwise most of the films that are made today have a metropolitan feel to it. However this one, despite being set far away from the cities, is not boring or arty. It is exhilarating.

Now that you are presenting the film, do you also get involved from commercials perspective?
No, there is no money involved. My presenting the film is just on paper but beyond that I have not played any part in its making, marketing or release. (Smiles) In any case only rich people can present a film. For me it is very embarrassing to have my name feature here as a presenter. Anyways, the makers of Dekh Indian Circus were convinced that they wanted it this way. I hope it helps them.
