A few months ago, we had reported that Ajay Devgn is gearing to feature in his first sports biopic on football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. The film was expected to be directed by Amit Sharma, who was then working on Badhaai Ho. Now that his film, the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer has released and is also rocking the box office, Amit has decided to concentrate on his next project, the biopic which will be co-produced by Boney Kapoor.

Recently, Amit Sharma took to the micro blogging site Twitter where he mentioned that now that he has completed Badhaai Ho and also tasted the fruit of success of the same, he has decided to move on with his next film on Syed Abdul Rahim. He posted a few old pictures of the football coach on the social networking platform along with the caption that read, “As #BadhaaiHo crosses 100cr mark, I prepare for my next… a film on golden years of Indian #football with the illustrious @ajaydevgn. Was amazing meeting football greats, Mr.Franco and Mr. Balaram, heard unbelievable true stories of #Rahimsaab. @freshlimefilms #BoneyKapoor.”

Furthermore, Amit Sharma also spoke about being associated with the project in recent reports wherein he stated that making a biopic and also a sports film were always on his wish list and with this, he got to fulfill both his dreams. He also spoke about the moment when Boney Kapoor had called him for the project, which was during the post production of the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Badhaai Ho. And the filmmaker also confessed that he immediately gave a nod when the opportunity came along his way.

Amit Sharma stated that one wouldn’t see Ajay playing much of football since he is the coach but yet the actor has a keen interest in the sport. He said to be commencing his training in the sport a month before the film goes on floor. It is being said that the film is expected to go on floor in mid-2019.
