Of late, Akshay Kumar has been seen in quite a few films that have pitched him as a national hero no less. Whether it is Kesari, Gold or PadMan, he has been pretty much wearing his patriotic or socially driven persona up his sleeves. Hence when Laxmmi Bomb, remake of Kanchana, was announced, one expected to see a comic avatar of the superstar.

However what has turned out to be all the more surprising and shocking is his look in the film that Akshay Kumar has recently revealed on the social media. To put it simply, it is not just shocking but even bold and unprecedented.

“Which mainstream hero could have dared to not just turn transgender for a film but also publicise it right at the onset when the shooting has just begun,” wonders an insider, “That’s the kind of confidence Akshay is carrying when it comes to his (re)entry into horror-comedy-thriller world after Bhool Bhulaiyaa.”

Of course, Akshay is a different kind of hero in Laxmmi Bomb, where he is playing the title role with elan. “I have seen the original Kanchana and if Akshay’s glimpse that has been released is any indication, I can say with utmost confidence that he is going to nail it big time,” says Mohan Yadappa, an IT professional from Bangalore.

What could have turned out to be funny if done in a stereotypical way is seemingly intriguing as Akshay’s close up is seen in the first look. “Him applying kajal seems a lot metaphorical to me,” comments Anjali Mehta, a Mumbai based beautician, “Being a huge film buff myself, I am trying to read between the lines here. In a transgender part, he could well be a revelation. He has shown what he can do for women with PadMan. May be there is something he is trying to tell us about transgenders with this film.”

Of course, the film is not intended to make a social statement here. However Akshay Kumar seems to be in the skin of the character and for audiences, there could well be something unique up in stores here with Laxmmi Bomb.

“I loved watching him as this guy with a feminine touch in a special appearance Dishoom. Yes, it was meant to be a comic scene with John Abraham and Varun Dhawan but Akshay went few steps ahead of a stereotype. I am sure there is something altogether different that he would explore as Laxmmi Bomb. I have high hopes already,” Rajeev Nath, a Delhi based college student comments.

Considering the fact that these are early days currently, one can expect more reactions to start coming in. More so since just a still of Akshay Kumar has been revealed so far and so much more is yet to be seen, be it the body language, mannerisms or facial expressions. With the actor doing quite well in amalgamating performance driven parts in a commercial set up, Laxmmi Bomb could well be an addition to that.
