Gangs Of Wasseypur's powerhouse performer Nawazuddin Siddiqui injured himself on Tuesday night, right after a screening of his latest release Chittagong in Delhi attended by the likes of Sheila Dixit.
Apparently, Ketan Mehta's film starring Nawazuddin which was supposed to start shooting later this week had to be postponed.
When contacted Nawazuddin tried to downplay his injury. "It's nothing that major. Yes, I've suffered a knee injury. It was a rather unfortunate end to a glorious evening. We all got a standing ovation at the Delhi premiere. I came out on the road to get into the car when my foot slipped into an invisible pothole. I heard something give way. I travelled back to Mumbai and the pain got worse. When I had it checked it turned out to be a torn ligament in the knee."
Nawazuddin has been strictly advised to rest his leg for a fortnight.
The film with Ketan Mehta would have to be postponed.
Says the saddened actor, "It's a very physical part. I've to climb a mountain. The doctors have warned against any physical exertion. Any movement could prove seriously damaging."
The actor also regrets the fact that he'd miss out on all the excitement surrounding the release of Chittagong. "It is my first romantic role. So far I've only played sinister dangerous characters. The director Bedabrata Pain wanted to project my character as the dreamer and the poet. Now I guess I'll have to do all the dreaming from my bed."
