USA: Free $30 Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…After Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, it is Madras Cafe which is sighting a Tax Free status for itself. Given its topical theme as well as social relevance, the makers are now taking serious steps to reach out to powers that be and convince them of granting the tax free status to the film.

"Madras Cafe opens a very important chapter in the history of India. While it was promoted as a film that was based in Sri Lanka, the end result has shown that at the core of it, it is about Rajiv Gandhi assassination. Also, it makes a statement against violence and terrorism of any kind. Since it involves more than just subtle messaging around, the film deserves to go Tax Free," says a source attached to the film.

John Abraham and Shoojit Sircar, who have collaborated on the film, wanted to wait for audience reaction before creating a case for considering tax exemption.

"The opening weekend numbers have shown that audience have loved the film and are still stepping in due to very positive word of mouth. Moreover, even critically the film is a huge success, as good as was the case with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Just like the Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed film was a biopic and took audience into history, Madras Cafe too has a similar setting to it. The film should be seen by maximum number of people and if John is contemplating a Tax Free status, he is right in his thought," says a fellow filmmaker.

Last heard, a case study was being readied for submission to various authorities in different states. To begin with, Maharashtra and Delhi are under consideration and other cities are expected to follow soon.

When contacted, John did confirm the developments. "Yes, I have been advised to do this. I hope there are positive developments around this."
