As things stand today, at least three films are boasting of music that have clear inspiration from the 90s. These are Subhash Ghai's Kaanchi, Yash Raj Films' Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Eros' Puraani Jeans which boasts of a fresh starcast.

"Ghai saab has been known for his great sense of music and right from Kaalicharan to Yuvvraaj, he has come up with some fantastic score. Now his Kaanchi is reminiscent of the kind of music that he had ensured in films like Saudagar and Taal. One listening of songs like 'Kaanchi Re Kaanchi' and 'Tu Sab Kuch Re' and you are transported back to the 90s," comments an insider.

On the other hand, for music composer Ram Sampath, the mandate was clear from first time director Tanushri Chattrji Bassu was clear. Since the Manju Lulla produced film is set in the 90s, the composer had to create the same ambience with his songs.

"Yes, Ram has given us the feel of the 90s and in his songs, you would hear the kind of melodies that Nadeem-Shravan excelled in," says Tanushree, "It was especially important for our film since the lead cast is very young and the 90s music suited them just fine. Moreover, for someone like me who has grown up on the music of 90s, it was nostalgia revisited."

Well, she is not alone as Ayushmann Khurranna too has been a huge fan and follower of 90s music. Though his 'Paani Da Rang' [Vicky Donor] and 'Khamakhaan' [Bewakoofiyaan] have been set in the contemporary times, his still heart beats for the likes of Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan who ruled in the 90s. No wonder, he was more than thrilled when for his upcoming film Dum Laga Ke Haisha there was a requirement for a Kumar Sanu song to come in.

"As a youngster from Haridwar, it was but natural that my character vouched for Kumar Sanu songs. It is going to be a treat for the audience," says Ayushmann.

"While Sanu da would be making his singing-acting appearance in the film, he would also be collaborating with Anu Malik to recreate the magic of the 90s," informs a source.

One wonders if there are more composers gearing up for taking a plunge as well into the 90s.
