CBFC recently got a setback after the CEO of the board Rakesh Kumar was arrested for allegedly taking bribe for certifying films. Along with him, an agent and a panel member too were accused of the crime and hence, removed from the board. Now, in order to keep up the efficiency of the board, former chairperson, Leela Samson has been asked to resume her duties and responsibilities until an appropriate replacement has been found.
Being the acting chairperson now, Leela revealed that in order for the proper functioning of the board and considering that many movies are in the pipeline for certification, she has decided to handover the charge to Deepak Tandel, secretary to the chairperson and Sanjay Jaiswal, senior administrative officer. Deepak and Sanjay have now been given the authority to certify films.
Currently Leela is busy finding the right person who can handle the position of the CEO of the board effectively and she has even maintained that the person should be a part of the film industry. She is also busy conducting interviews of candidates for the post of Regional Officers.
One of the films that has been majorly affected by this controversy is Desi Kattey. The film starring Suneil Shetty, Jay Bhanushali, Tia Bajpai, Sasha Agha is yet to receive a clearance certificate from the board for its promos and the film is slated to release on September 12. In fact, director Anand Kumar expressed his concern over the fact that the film will hardly get any time for promotions owing to the controversy and they may even face a heavy monetary losses.
