USA: Free $30 Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…A hard hitting and realistic take on child trafficking and prostitution, Mardaani hit the silverscreen this week. However, we hear that the movie will not see the light of the day in Pakistan. The film board and distribution of Pakistan has denied the request of releasing the Rani Mukerji starrer in the country.

According to the Pakistani distributor Rehmat K Fazli, there was too much adult content in the film and hence, there were too many deletions being requested which is why it was rejected for public exhibition. It is being said that there were about seven cuts and certain scenes were asked to be blurred keeping in mind the stringent rules of the Pakistani Board. However, due to several changes being suggested, the creative team was under the belief that the essence of the film is being lost somewhere. They also feared that these changes may distort the message they are trying to give and may even dilute the script. Hence they decided to go against the suggestions and because of that they had to lose out on the Pakistan release.

The said scenes were considered very controversial and depicted human trafficking, young girls being auctioned off, police interrogation sequences among others. In fact, when the promos of Mardaani hit the screens, they too were asked to tone down their content considering the young age group that are exposed to television.

Prior to this, yet another Yash Raj film that faced this objection was Ek Tha Tiger since the Board believed that the film had a few anti-Pakistan elements.

Last seen in Bombay Talkies in 2013, Rani will be seen playing the role of a CBI official who is on a mission to expose a child trafficking racket. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar, Mardaanireleased on August 22.
