USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…On Tuesday evening it was a surprise party thrown by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's sister Bela Sehgal and his friend producer-dress designer Shabina Khan at a suburban restaurant to celebrate Bhansali's Padma Shri.
But the biggest surprise was the appearance of Shah Rukh Khan at the party held at the eatery Nido in Khar Mumbai. Shah Rukh not only showed up to congratulate his Devdas director, he stayed on for quite a while.
Says a prominent invitee, "It was quite a night. All of SLB's closest friends had been invited by Bela and Shabina at the surprise party. Shah Rukh's appearance was a special surprise. Of course everyone spoke to him only about US President Obama using Shah Rukh's line from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge in his speech."
Interestingly, the Shah Rukh-Bhansali dosti has been brewing for some time ever since Shah Rukh's brotherly bonding with Karan Johar went bust.
The entire industry knows Bhansali and Johar are not the best of friends.
Says a source close to Bhansali, "Shah Rukh has always been fond of SLB. Long after Devdas they kept in touch. Some time ago SRK had gifted SLB with a rare custom-made record player. At the party to celebrate the Padma Shri Shah Rukh was in his element. He even forced a few drinks down SLB's throat, though SLB doesn't drink much."
SLB's Bajirao Mastani actors Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra were present in full force. But SLB's Mastani Deepika Padukone was out of town.
In rare and beautiful gesture, Bela Sehgal and Shabina Khan invited writer-lyricist Prasoon Joshi to join Bhansali at the party, as both of them had won the Padma Shri.
Says a source, "Bela and Shabina wanted to celebrate Prasoon's Padma Shri along with their friend Bhansali's Padma Shri. Prasoon sportingly agreed to be there."
