Pyaar Ho Gaya Koi Shaq…

When life hands you lemons you can be bitter and sour or you can mix a margarita and raise a toast … From the international film festival circuit to those who have watched the trailer of Margarita with a Straw in India – everyone is raising a toast to the film.

Dusokute, the first song that was released for this slice of life film has been well received. Composed by Joi Barua, the song was lying with director Shonali Bose through a friend of hers who had shared it for her personal enjoyment.

However, it was such a catchy tune that she absolutely fell in love with it and decided to have it as part of the film. Exploring various issues in the film with dignity, this song features Laila and her crush Nima who is an Assamese student.

Laila, played by the versatile actress Kalki Koechlin is born with cerebral palsy but she is very fond of music. In fact, she is the lead lyricist in her college band and penning an Assamese word  ‘Dusokute’ as part of the song was her way of impressing Nima, with whom she was falling head over heels in love.

Elaborating on the same, Shonali Bose said, “When I was in college in Delhi, I remember a lot of the North Eastern students on campus used to be looked upon differently and the same was the case with my cousin Malini when we used to go out – as she was in a wheelchair. I wanted to emphasise this attitude that people have because both are varied forms of discrimination which is the common bond that my characters Laila and Nima share. Dusokute was a perfect fit in the narrative addressing not only this issue but also Laila’s adoloscent love for Nima.”

Penned by acclaimed lyricist Prasoon Joshi, the word Dusokute was retained from the original composition and the rest of the song was written in Hindi.

Margarita with a Straw is produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, Jakhotia Group, Kool Homes and Ishan Talkies and releases on April 17, 2015
