Puli steals thunder from Singh Is Bliing to release on October 1

USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…It isn't just coincidence that the Tamil word Puli means tiger in English? Puli is proving to be quite a bully at the box-office.

This Gandhi Jayanti, the spectacular Tamil fantasy-adventure, which is being seen as a scintillating successor to the maha-blockbuster Bahubali, has sprung out of nowhere to confront Prabhudheva's Akshay Kumar comedy Singh Is Bliing.

Singh Is Bliing, it may be recalled, had decided to sing its own zing on Gandhi Jayanti after Vikas Bahl's Shandaar had moved out of that slot. Now comes this unexpected mega-competition from the Dravidian hemisphere which shook the box-office with Bahubali in July. Puli which is another mythological-epic is being seen as a worthy successor to Bahubali.

Late last week producer Pahlaj Nihalani closed the deal for all-India distributions rights at a whopping price. The film will now be released on October 1 on a massive numbers of screens.

Says Pahlaj Nihalani, "I am confident Puli has the potential to be a major all-India success. We've dubbed the original Tamil film into Telugu and Hindi and now all three versions of Puli will open worldwide on October 1."

Interestingly, Puli comes out of the blue to confront Prabhudheva's Singh Is Bliing, and Meghna Gulzar'a much talked-about real-life thriller Talvar. Both open a day after Puli on October 2. Gandhi Jayanti never looked more crowded at the movies.

Interestingly, Prabhudheva and the Puli lead actor Tamil superstar Vijay are close friends. Vijay had made a cameo appearance in Prabhu's earlier Akshay Kumar starrer Rowdy Rathore.
