High Court lifts stay on Sooraj Pancholis trial over Jiah Khan case

Jiah Khan who was alleged to have committed suicide way back in 2013, soon turned controversial when her mother Rabia Khan accused the Pancholis for murdering her daughter. Sooraj Pancholi, who was the then boyfriend of actress Jiah Khan, was initially accused of abetment of suicide, followed by murder charges pressed by the actress' mother Rabia Khan. The case was last handed over to CBI and now it has been revealed that the stay on the trial of Sooraj Pancholi over abetment of suicide has been dismissed.

The division bench of Justice Naresh Patil and Justice A M Badar have asked the trial court to continue the trial of Sooraj Pancholi over the abetment of suicide case since the CBI officials have reportedly revealed that they haven't found any evidence matching to Rabia's claims of a murder. According to reports, their recent investigation points towards a suicide. However, Rabia Khan continues to stick to her claims and have even asked a Special Investigation Team along with FBI to intervene since Jiah was a US citizen.

On the other hand, the recent lift of the stay over Sooraj Pancholi's trial is the decision of Bombay High Court who has also added that this will continue until they arrive at a decision over the petition filed by Rabia for the Special Investigation Team.

After Sooraj Pancholi was arrested over abetment of suicide of Jiah Khan in June 2013, Rabia Khan continued to accuse him of murdering his daughter which caused CBI to intervene. However, when the CBI concluded about this being suicide and not a homicide, Rabia further alleged the CBI officials of completing the investigation in haste and once again filed a petition seeking the help of a Special Investigation Team and also asking the Federal Bureau of Investigation to intervene.
