The trailer with its extensive visuals of Shahid Kapoor indulging in substance abuse and colourful language which had gone viral on the internet, has been substantially toned-down for its theatrical viewing.

According to reliable sources, the original trailer that had gone viral was not censored.

According to sources the CBFC was rudely when shocked when Anurag Kashyap had tweeted this: "Pleasantly surprised and thankful to the CBFC for seeing the Udta Punjab trailer in the context and clearing it without a single cut. Big one. Having cursed the CBFC always for their overzealous attitude, must credit them where it's due. Thank you Mr Nihalani, hoping it continues."

Saya source, "The trailer had not even come to the CBFC when it was put on the internet. Now it has been certified with the language seriously toned down."

All the abuses profanities and cuss words which Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are heard mouthing online are removed in the theatres.

Says Pahlaj Nihalani, "The trailer has now been viewed and suitably modified."
