The real reason why Shatrughan Sinha opted out of beti Sonakshis Akira

Now that A R Murugadoss's attempts to flirt with feminism is out in the public domain we can reveal the real reason why Shatrughan Sinha chose to back out of Akira after accepting the role of his real-life daughter's father.

The real reason, according to the patriarch himself, was that the character was that of a vocally impaired man. Says Shatruji, "Yes, the character was that of a father who couldn't speak. All my career I've been seen as a vociferous character who says 'Khamosh' to all his friends and enemies. Now how could I myself become 'Khamosh'? It would be like Arijit Singh playing a character who sings off key."

There was another bigger reason why Shatruji chose not to do Akira. "My character played her father. But we had no scenes together. My scenes were only with the little girl who acted Sonakshi's childhood portions."

Shatruji is all praise for Atul Kulkarni who plays the role. "He is a very accomplished actor. I am so glad he did the role. And he brought the character to life."

Incidentally Sonakshi was not too keen that her Papa play the part of her dad in Akira as the character dies and is seen only in flashbacks. "Like any doting daughter Sonakshi doesn't like the thought of something happening to her father," says the doting father.

Adds Shatrughan Sinha, "I'd have loved the honest cop's role played by Konkona Sen Sharma. Instead of a man it could have been a male cop on the verge of retirement determined to nab the dirty colleagues from the police department before he retires."

The father and daughter plan to be seen together in director Umesh Shukla's film which Shatrughan Sinha will produce. It will also star Sonakshi's brother Luv Sinha.

Says Shatruji, "It's too early to talk about that project right now. The details are being worked out."
