OMG – Oh My God! hits the screens. The film has not been hyped much before the release as usually the Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal combo movies are done. The film maintains low publicity even majority of the viewers was not aware of the release date. Well, though it apparently seems the award-winning combo of Akshay and Paresh, but in actual, the movie belongs to Paresh Rawal entirely as you will find Akshay lesser on screen.

The film talks about a shopkeeper Kanjibhai (Paresh Rawal) who files a lawsuit against God since his shop gets destroyed as a result of an earthquake and the insurance company refuses to pay him citing the loss as an act of God. The troubled and having no other option in hand, Kanjibhai goes to court filing the case against God by naming various godmen as delegates of God. Akshay Kumar plays the role of a Lord Krishna in the movie and he appears wearing the elegant designers wear dresses.

The film is an adaptation of the hugely popular play ‘Krishan vs. Kanhaiya’ but the writer has added some new flavor to freshen up the product for the cinematic viewers.

OMG – Oh My God! tells the story of Kanji Mehta (Paresh Rawal) who happens to be an atheist. He runs a business of antique shop and for this man religion and God appear to be nothing more than a proposition of business. His business revolves around buying the idols of God and then selling them off as antique idols at tripe price. Kanji’s wife is a sincere believer.  By the time the earthquake takes place in the city, no destruction happens in the city but just one place gets ruined and that is Kanji’s shop. He reaches at his insurance company for the claim of damage but the company refuses paying the damages saying it was an act of God. The frustrated man with no other option in hand reaches at the court to file the lawsuit against God on the basis and grounds that if God is responsible for his losses, then He will have to compensate the losses.

The legal notices are sent to the heads of the religious sects and the priests in the area by Kanji. When the proceedings take place at the court, he does not appoint any lawyer for his case and he himself argues in the court as he does not trust anybody. Besides it is much hard to get a lawyer who comes and puts God on trial.

The story and script works and have been written by Umesh Shukla who has also directed the film. The execution of the subject on screen is catchy and attracts the viewers. The cinematography is good. Editing is just about okay as the second half of the movie seems stretched forcibly. The length of the film could have been a little shorter. Music composed by Himesh, Sachin-Jigar and Anjjan-Meet Brothers is okay.

Paresh Rawal is simply awesome as usual. He is a creative actor and whenever he comes on screen simply loots the hearts and souls. He has done the job convincingly. Akshay Kumar too impresses with his role. Rest of the cast goes well with the characterizations.

Final Verdict by the Critic:

On the whole, OMG – Oh My God! is a good movie. Since it has been made on the hugely popular play ‘Krishan vs. Kanhaiya’, it will work with the masses.
