Hindus have welcomed the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s gesture of reportedly agreeing to meet the delegation of First Nation leaders on January 11.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, called it a “step in the right direction”.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that all Canadian communities should make efforts to coexist in harmony, peace, love and mutual trust and should feel each other’s pain. Dialogue would strengthen mutual relationships.

Rajan Zed further said that economic development should focus on all Canadian communities instead of the select few. Moreover, environmental safeguards for lakes and rivers would be beneficial for the nation as a whole and should be embraced by all groups, Zed added.
