Western Australia has a new Hindu temple now.

Shree Swaminarayan Temple (Mandir) Perth opened in Bennett Springs after six days of Murti Pratistha Mahotsav, which ended on January 14.

These celebrations included hawan, poojas, kathas, aartis, kirtan, Rang Utsav, etc. Colin Barnett, Western Australia Premier, reportedly presided over the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, applauded efforts of temple-project leaders and area community to realize this Hindu temple.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that it was important to pass on Hindu spirituality, concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society and hoped that this new temple would focus in this direction. Zed stressed that instead of running after materialism; we should focus on inner search and realization of Self and work towards achieving moksh (liberation), which was the goal of Hinduism.

There are reportedly about 12,000 Hindus in Western Australia, coming from diverse backgrounds of India, Fiji, United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Kenya, Malaysia, etc.

One of the oldest lands on Earth having largest collection of wildflowers on the planet, Western Australia occupies around 2.5 million square kilometers, about one-third of Australia’s total landmass. Notable people associated with Western Australia include actors Heath Ledger and Hugh Jackman, cricketer Adam Gilchrist, musician John Butler and model Megan Gale.

Established in 2011, Bennett Springs, which has bird-themed streets, in the City of Swan, is a suburb of Perth. Charlie Zannino is the Mayor of City of Swan, which claims the “must-see destination” status and is home to magnificent Swan Valley.
