Hindus have welcomed the reported approval by Afghanistan National Assembly House of Elders (Meshrano Jirga) of reserving one seat for Hindus and Sikhs in the House of People (Wolesi Jirga) in 2015 elections.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, called thus efforts at giving representation to country’s Hindus and Sikhs “a step in the right direction”.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged House of People of Afghanistan National Assembly to also support passing of this measure.

Rajan Zed also urged Hindu and Sikh nationals of Afghanistan to wholeheartedly work for the development of Afghanistan. Zed urged Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai to seriously listen to other issues of minority Hindu and Sikh communities of Afghanistan and work on speedy resolution of those.
