In “the biz,” we tend to give the MTV Movie & TV Awards’ red carpet a lot of flack. The mainstream awards show sort of trails off far after the big hitters (i.e. Oscars, Golden Globes, Met Gala), and features an eclectic dress code that ranges from ballgowns to jeans. But skepticism aside, we still keep a watchful eye on the carpet every year. While it often doesn’t wow us on the whole, the teen- and young adult-focused event does always bring out a new crop of fresh, young talent that seize the opportunity to show off their style chops.

Unfortunately a few of our carpet favorites (read: Millie Bobby Brown) were missing from the line-up this year, but the usual standout fashion suspects still made an appearance: Yara Shahidi, Zendaya, Tommy Dorfman, you know the ones. Not far behind them were some of our favorite faces of the year, from Tessa Thompson to Tiffany Haddish, some of whom showed us that the evening can deliver some pretty cool outfits.

Step (and repeat) ahead for a peek at all of the looks worth noting for tonight’s event.

Zendaya rarely gets it wrong when it comes to the red carpet. This mini-skirted August Getty number only serves to remind us of that fact.

Golden Barbie (a.k.a Jasmine Sanders) is living up to her nickname in this head-to-toe yellow ensemble. The full-time model, part-time Kim Kardashian BFF made traditional suiting playful in a full-length Alexander Terekhov blazer dress.

Between starring roles in Westworld and Thor: Ragnarok, Hollywood seems just as besotted with Tessa Thompson as we are. We fangirl-ed hard as soon as we saw she teamed up with one of our personal favorites, Rosie Assoulin, for her appropriately dramatic look.

Ugh, could we love Tommy Dorfman any more? The 13 Reasons Why star isn’t a stranger to breaking down barriers, but this to-good-to-be-true Thom Browne look may just be his magnum opus.

It’s difficult to find any reason to not fawn over this singing sister duo. Chloe and Halle prove their style is just as inspiring as their music in these floral Marc Jacobs getups.

Fresh off a Golden Globes nomination for her performance in 13 Reasons Why, Katherine Langford is on a spree to prove she’s the ultimate cool girl celeb. Rolling up in a chic black veil and an equally gothic chic Giorgio Armani gown is definitely a good start.

First came Millennial Pink, then came Gen-Z Yellow. Now everyone’s been trying to put their pulse on the new color of the year. While melodramatic purple has been having it’s moment, Yara Shahidi is giving a case for pale blue in her custom Tory Burch suit.

The Riverdale girls have been having the most fun this last year. While everyone else is duking it out over Betty or Veronica, you can find us on Team Cheryl. Madelaine Petsch is an absolute goddess in this sweet Prada dress.

Amandla Stenberg has had a busy week between crushing it on the red carpet in this Louis Vuitton ensemble to proudly coming out in her recent Wonderland cover story. She’s slowly been a mainstay in our red carpet round-ups, and if this latest look is any indication, we’re betting she’s bound to soon become a bonafide fashion favorite.

As host of the evening, Tiffany Haddish had big shoes to fill as far as leading the red carpet. Suffice it to say the comedian got the job done in a show-stopping Galia Lahav gown.

Suiting elements made a big appearance on the carpet the other night. Delilah Belle Hamlin shows us how to do it best in a belted mini blazer dress. This is one you definitely should try at home, folks.

Representing the small but mighty over-26 age group at the awards show was longtime bae, Olivia Munn. She kept things simple yet red-carpet worthy in a velvet Galvan London dress that we’d be down to rent for our own next event.
