The Commissioner of Nzara County in Western Equatoria State (WES) Mr. Elia Richard Box visited a local farmer, Mr. Ferdinando Bakura’s tobacco plantation in Kopoeta last Thursday.

At his old age, Mr. Ferdinando has tried to successfully keep a tobacco farm of about half a fedan.

Mr. Box highly appreciated the efforts of Mr. Ferdinando saying it is rare to see tobacco farms these days in WES. “I urge other farmers to be exemplary; this will encourage the County authority to look for investors to enable farmers to begin producing our own quality cigarettes instead of importing from Uganda or Kenya,” he said.

Mr. Ferdinando in turn appreciated the Commissioner for the rear visit to witness his efforts in tobacco farming. “I always felt isolated with no one recognising my efforts. This is my own initiative to set up the farm, I urge my fellow farmers to replicate this and work hard like other Countries to enable us benefit as local farmers from tobacco products,” Ferdinando added.

Kopoeta area is located 3 Kilometres along Sangua-Basukangbi road where the tobacco plantation is found.
