The Governor of Wau State, Andrea Mayar Acho on Friday said his government has now taken drastic measures against unbridled insecurity within Wau town.

WAU, 23 April 2017 [Gurtong] – Acho said the national security forces that recently arrived in the capital of Wau completed their deployment on Saturday within the deserted areas in the town in order to provide maximum security protection to residents to allow civilian who sought for refuge at the UN protection site to return to their homes.

The move, the Governor said came after a security meeting conducted on Thursday at the State council of ministers which aims at providing protection to those who fled their homes following the bloodshed carnage of violence which affected a high population outside and inside Wau town.

“Yes the security committee met yesterday and we agreed that our Internally Displaced Persons who are present here, for example those who came from Wadh-Alelo should be taken to safe areas that are chosen by the government like Masana Biira factory. We inspected the area yesterday and there are forces there in the new site school which is mandated to protect people there,” said Acho.

“When these forces arrived in the place yesterday, resident of that area began returning to their homes, so in our meeting, we agreed on some areas where the forces would be deployed that is why today, the security committee are moving to inspect the areas of deployment,” said Acho.

Acho said the State government is extending the deployment of the SPLA army outside the town while within the town would be handled by the national security.

“We have found many homes are empty, why because of insecurity, civilians fear for their lives, so we have received forces of national security that will provide good fortification in Wau town,” said the Governor.

Acho said the current protection forces would be joined by the State special units and they will be deployed in all residential areas.

“There will be nobody that will attack you or take your properties at home, you will be protected, this is the work of your State government to protect you,” said Acho.

Residents who spoke to the media welcomed the move saying they will be happy to see that the national security is being sent to their areas.

Kasmiro Natale Taban is one of the residents of Wau town.

“We are very happy to hear from the Governor about provision of security, this is what we want such that our people who are at the UN protection sites return home,” he said.
