Hon. Alison Manani Magaya has for his first time since his appointment as the Country’s Interior Minister visited Western Bahr el Ghazal State (WBGS)yesterday to gauge the ministry’s capability to protect the entire State citizens from any external and internal attacks.
Magaya’s visit to Wau follows his lengthy tour covering 5 States in the Country including Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
Hon. Magaya’s was officially received at the Wau main airstrip by the State Governor Rizik Zackaria Hussan along with the South Sudan Police Inspector General, Achuil Tito .
“The tour around the States was to gauge the Interior Ministry’s capability to protect the entire citizens from any external and internal attacks as per the continuation of inter communal fights in some States and the recent Sudan’s aggression in some parts of the Country,” Magaya said .
Magaya addressed hundreds of the State’s Special Forces, the regular police, game rangers, fire brigade department and prison services at State police headquarters.
“Our Country’s independence came after a long struggle and millions died for us to be here, we must not misuse our God given gift through engaging into tribal clashes,” Magaya appealed to them.
“The current insecurity situation in the country requires your carefulness and hard work in order to maintain civilian’s safety, we need to protect our citizens,” Manaya added.
“We also need to find out the root causes and who are behind these rampant tribal conflicts in Jonglei State so that they are put to an end and restore peace and development,” he said.
Magaya said that from 2011 – 2016 the new nation needs to recognize key transformations in the Republic of South Sudan’s Special Forces into modern forces and all civilians will be disarmed to avoid armed cattle raids.
Magaya made it clear that this time round, the national Ministry of Interior will only make new recruitments based on educational background starting with primary leavers and will also acquire any relevant certificates from any interested individual.
The Minister assured the forces on the ongoing administrative changes and the increase of their basic salaries in the coming months but warned them to use their money wisely.
He also said that his Ministry is planning to select some senior officers to be deployed in the Country’s large oil field stations for protection.
