A delegation from the African Union (AU) and United Nations Mission In Sudan (UNMIS) arrived in Western Equatoria State (WES) early last week to establish a regional taskforce headquarters to enhance the State Security.

In an interview with the delegation, the Head of the AU Mission Col. David King Anthony revealed that their mission in Western Equatoria State is to establish a regional taskforce headquarters in Yambio and another one in Nzara County to ensure security in the State in line with elimination of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) from the State.

He added that their role is to create a safer State to allow developmental organizations to render services to the local population of this new nation.

Col. David King urged the State government and the citizens to cooperate for the success of the mission.

Meanwhile the Governor of WES Hon. Bangasi Joseph Mario Bakosoro said that the security situation in the State was stable due to the presence of the Uganda Patriotic Defence Force (UPDF), the United States of America (USA) army and the SPLA.

The State Governor added that, since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) 7 years ago, Western Equatoria State has suffered insecurity incidences but the government has ensured the security of its people.
