Mr. Manaseh Lomole addressing a gathering at Nyakuron Cultural Centre in a previous function [©Gurtong]The humanitarian crisis and struggle to restore peace in Jonglei needs collective efforts of the nation, the Central Equatoria State (CES) Deputy Governor, Manasseh Lomole said yesterday while addressing a congregation at Gucene Episcopal Church of Sudan.

While delivering his 2012 year’s message to the congregation, Lomole said the year 2012 should be a year of struggle for development progress; he called on collective efforts on the challenges hindering growth in the newest nation.

“This year must be a year of peace, let’s focus on development to improve the lives of our citizens,” said the Deputy Governor.

“What has happened in Jonglei deserves collective peace efforts and am urging our people to pray that peace is restored in Jonglei so that faith can light the hearts of people in Greater Upper Nile Region to unite and reconcile,” Lomole said.

Jonglei, the South Sudan largest State late last month was rocked with tribal conflicts that led to the killing and displacement of people and destruction of property in which 3,000 (unconfirmed statistics) people were reported to have been killed with at least 60,000 others displaced.

The Government of South Sudan declared the State “a disaster zone” and called for non-governmental organizations to fully intervene and rescue the situation. Meanwhile, the United Nations said logistics have continued to remain a challenge in an effort to contain the situation.
