Cabinet expressed disbelief over airport treatment

Collins Chabane, the Minister in Presidency informed the media on Thursday that the cabinet was shocked to see the behavior and the procedure that the African foreign nationals had to go through at the Tambo International Airport, especially Nigerians.

Chabane informed the media about the update on the matter in Cape Town where the cabinet members had met a little while ago to discuss the conditions, circumstances, and the steps to take in regards to the procedure of security at the Tambo International Airport. He also informed that the cabinet members have formed a specialized team to investigate into the matter and come up with a comprehensive report at the earliest.

He said, “Cabinet expressed shock and regret at reports regarding how African foreign nationals, particularly Nigerians, have been treated at OR Tambo International Airport. The genesis of the issue seems to be about yellow fever certificates. A high-level ministerial task team comprised of the various affected ministries has been set up to get to the bottom of the issue.”

Chabane further said that a meeting has been arranged with the Nigerian High Commission and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, which is expected to take place around noon time on Thursday.

He concluded the media briefing saying, “The details of what exactly happened and further remedial measures will be discussed at that briefing”.
