The casual meeting amongst clients and lawyers at Du Randt-Richards Attorneys which ended up in shooting on Wednesday had the statements of eyewitnesses recorded on Thursday.
The crime scene at the lawyers office was called in for investigation when four clients and two lawyers sat down for a meeting which shortly ended up in three dead bodies with the fourth one going down when the gunman shot himself after instructing his lawyer to sale his boat and take care of his wife.
One of the eyewitnesses also mentioned that the gunman shot the three individuals and returned a little while later and opened fire on the dead bodies to ensure no one survived and then put a bullet in his own head. The shooter is known to be a businessman named Martin van Deventer.
Another eyewitness informed, “Five shots and then a scream. He [Van Deventer] shot the guys and then wanted to make sure that they were dead. He went back and shot everyone again. He told the lawyers he’s not going to hurt them and then he shot himself.”
Paramedics arriving at the crime scene declared that there were three dead bodies in the office with another man in critical condition. The formal statement paramedics issued said, “A fourth man was in a critical condition and we transported him to hospital. Unfortunately, he died shortly after arrival at the hospital with a gun wound to the head.”
