The two decrees; number 13/2012 declared the appointment of Mr. Hussein Mar Nyuot as Deputy Governor and Minister of Information and Communication.
The other decree number 14/2012 details the appointment of new ministers. Two new ministries were created (Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage; the Ministry without portfolio.
The new face in cabinet is Hon. Baba Medan leading the Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage docket. The new cabinet has also included three female ministers.
Governor Manyang noted that the ministers should be prepared to face numerous challenges in delivering social services to the public mainly in rural areas. He assured that the new cabinet will put more efforts to improve security through disarmament. Manyang also noted that his government will work hard to attract investors into Jonglei’s several sectors.
“The function of the government is to first maintain law and order – we have to disarmed and stop child abduction in order to create a conducive environment for investors,†he continued.
Governor Manyang affirmed that the new cabinet will also deliver basic services such as education and health programs as part of 2010 election campaign promises.
The new cabinet of Jonglei state has increased to 15 ministries. All ministers are SPLM members.
Most citizens in Jonglei state’s rural areas recently fled their home due to fears of attacks from the Murle community despite civilians being disarmed. They urged the state government to deploy police officers in respective stations to guard the counties while the SPLA flash out armed attackers still hiding in the bush.
Manyang urged the state citizens to return to their respective homes while assuring maximum protection as disarmament continues.
“We have 9,000 police officers ready to be deployed but 6,000 of them have no firearms. The central government in Juba sent us over 2,000 guns of AK47 model (selective-fire, gas-operated assault rifle) for a few forces to be armed and to be deployed promptly,†the governor explained.
