This follows a presentation of the Bill on Tuesday last week to the State Legislative Assembly by the State Minister of Cabinet and Parliamentary Affairs Clement Chichim Laku.

This followed a resolution by the State Council of Ministers.

The state lawmakers engaged in heated debates on the emoluments, allowances and privileges for the Commission’s chairperson deputies and members.

In the new development, Chairperson of Commissions will earn 5,000 South Sudanese Pounds, accommodation allowance of SSP 1,000 and car allowance of SSP 1, 000.

Deputy chairpersons will be entitled to SSP 3,500 in emoluments, SSP 7,500 for accommodation and SSP 750 for car hire while members of commissions will take home SSP 2,500, SSP 500 for accommodation and SSP 500 for car hire.

Also incorporated in the new package is the provision of free medical treatment of the commissions’ members inside South Sudan or abroad at the expenses of the State Government at a value not exceeding SSP 15,000 for Chairpersons, SSP 10,000 for deputy chairpersons and SSP 750 for members.

Laku said the new package will affect the five state commissions in the state including the State Physical Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, State Revenue Commission, the State Peace Commission, the State Employees’ Justice Chamber and the State Public Grievances’ Chamber.
