Teresa Ayuat Buolo cautioned parents not to consider dowries which deny girls right to access education.
Educating one girl is equivalent to educating two boys in the family. Many parents are not sending their young girls to school with an aim of receiving dowries. This has remained a great challenge to girl education South Sudan”, Ayuat said.
She warned that anyone who impregnates a school girl would face seven years imprisonment as stipulated in the constitution.
Ayuat was as addressing a public rally in Bahr- Akol, Northern part of Jur River County.
The thanksgiving rally, organised by the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) was attended by hundreds of party supporters.
