In a press statement, the AUHIP reminded the leaders of the Republic of South Sudan and Sudan to end all forms of hostilities between their countries by resolving all their outstanding matters through peaceful means.

According to the release, the AUHIP received a letter from the Chief Negotiator of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan Pagan Amum, in which he lodged a complaint that the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) had attacked SPLA units in the South Sudanese state of Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

However, on 21 July 2012the Sudanese Minister of Defence General Abdelrahim Hussein also made a verbal presentation in which he denied that the SAF had attacked SPLA positions.
Hussein stated that the SAF had attacked a column of the Darfur JEM rebels, within the territory of Sudan.

The Parties agreed to continue their negotiations without interruption, bearing in mind that as confirmed by the AU Peace and Security Council Roadmap and UNSC Resolution 2046, they meet under the auspices of the AUHIP.

The parties have affirmed their determination to honour these commitments.
