South Sudan Chief Negotiator Pagan Amum says that two nations are set to finalise the comprehensive aggrement on outstanding issues when they resume for talks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Amum said that Sudan agreed to take an average of US $9.48 per barrel for the landlocked country to export its oil through Port Sudan.

“Under this deal, the Republic of South Sudan will be paying US $8.4 for The Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company (GNPOC) pipeline and $6.5 for Petrodar pipeline”, he said.

This is only a dollar more per barrel than Republic of South Sudan had previously paid, he said.

Sudan had demanded that South Sudan pay US $36 to have its oil transported through its oil infrastructure.  South Sudan will now pay a total of US $9.10 for Petrodar and US $11.0 for GNPOC.

South Sudan has also offered Sudan US $3.028 billion in direct Transitional Financial Assistance (TFA) that will be paid over three and half years to reduce on the financial gap resulting from the loss of revenues.

This deal came just a day after the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a visit to Juba.

Mrs Clinton urged the two sides to reach a timely agreement on all the outstanding issues adding that their economic viability rests on resolving their differences.

The United Nation Security Council resolution 2046 gave a three-month window for the Sudan and South Sudan to resolve their differences.

Amum disclosed that his team persevered many challenges before the striking of the oil deal.

South Sudan’s negotiating team return to Ethiopia to finalize the details of the oil deal and conclude additional agreements addressing the outstanding security issues, disputed and claimed border areas, citizenship and the final status of Abyei.
