The chairlady of South Sudan Women General Association Sarah James Ajith advised women to persist in encouraging each other on issues that touch on women and children.
Ajith made the appeal at the closing ceremony of a three-day women conference in Bor, Jonglei State.
“We are enlightening the women about their constitutional rights, duties and responsibility in nation building,” said Ajith.
According to Ajith change cannot come to South Sudan unless women are involved.
She called for women’s unity and urged them to pursue and fight for their rights as enshrined in the constitution.
Jonglei State Minister of Local Government Ding Akol Ding who represented the governor at the ceremony said that achieving rights of women will not be easy unless they sacrifice and work hard.
The Conference was supported by United Nations’ Gender Unit under the theme “Know Your Rights in the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan”.
The women were advised to feel and be part of the nation as stipulated in the bill of rights.
The South Sudanese Women General Association helps build the capacity of women in the country.
