The Deputy Chairperson of the Commission Biel Jock Thick said that the matters raised by the human rights watch deserve full investigation.
“The commission is not in position to conduct thorough investigation into the matter because of the limited resources it has at its disposal,” he said.
Thick said that the officials from his commission pulled out from the area in April this year because of financial difficulties.
He however said that his officers received reports of harassment by the soldiers and beatings and one alleged rape case of which the offender was apprehended.
The commission also calls upon individual victims of the alleged violations to file formal complaints with the commission for appropriate investigations to commence.
This week, the Spokesperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) Philip Aguer confirmed that there have been cases of violations in which he cited four rape cases and a total of 31 cases that have been recorded.
Aguer however insisted that the report of the human rights watch is over exaggerated.
