The announcement was made following a meeting between the Ministry of Housing and Physical Planning and a delegation from South Korea led by the Director General of Construction Policy, Ministry of Land, Transport and Marine Affairs Park Min-woo.

“We would like to suggest a creation of a joint committee establishing infrastructure construction plan for the new capital city of the Republic of South Sudan,” Min-woo said.

According to the Korean delegation, they proposed a signing of a memorandum of understanding on the formation of the committee that will be composed of members from Ministry of Land, Transport and Marine Affairs on their side and the South Sudanese ministries of Roads and Bridges, Water and Irrigation, Transport, Electricity and Dams and that of Housing and Physical Planning.

Min-woo revealed that this will strengthen ties between the two countries and that they intend to not only be part of the Ramciel project but also the infrastructural development of the whole country.

Having had more less the same experience with South Sudan, the Korean delegation says it is important that they take part in the development of this new country so as to share experiences of how they developed.

Nevertheless, the head of the delegation said that they intend to sign the MOU this month and set the committee by November and begin to start work immediately.

Meanwhile the Deputy Minister of Housing and Physical Planning Hon. Col. Mary Nyaulang Ret welcomed the idea but said her ministry will consult with the other ministries and forward it to the Council of Ministers.
She urged the delegation to forward the draft proposal so that they can look into it as they consult and both parties promised to be in touch.

“I want you to go away with the general idea that we have welcomed the proposal,” she said.
