The Lakes State capital, Rumbek was selected to host second anniversary celebration of South Sudan independence.

Mapuor said that the government will tarmac Rumbek airport runway and within Rumbek Central County, 10 kilometers of roads will be paved with support from the office of the President.

“Ten kilometres of roads within Rumbek County will be tarmacked – The Airport of Rumbek is now upgraded to be an international airport – this airport will be tarmacked as funds are released by support of South Sudanese president,” said Adak Costa.

Lakes State put more priorities in constructing feeder roads but lack funds affected the plans.

The state Ministry for Physical Infrastructure set up Feeder Roads Steering Committee (FRSC) to decide roads priorities across the eight counties of Lakes State.

Eight Counties are seeking feeder roads as part of Lakes State Governor 2010 election campaigns promise.

The state has been affected badly by floods which cut off more local feeder roads.

Rumbek–Wulu–Mvolo road has been dilapidated and are causing a nightmare for drivers.
