Championed by the Ministry of Gender and Child Welfare, the consultations brought the UN family organizations dealing in gender issues, other organizations and the South Sudan civil society women activists in the country for the validation of the document.

Esther Ikere, the Undersecretary for Gender and Child Welfare told Gurtong that the document now remains to be endorsed by the Council of Ministers and be ratified by the parliament.

Significantly, she explained that; “the objective of the strategic plan is to give framework for guiding principles for gender equality and women empowerment in the national development processes.”

“And it also serves as an accountability framework for achieving results for the gender policy,” she added.

At the moment the South Sudan women activists are operating in limbo as a result of the absence of a guiding strategic policy framework.

The framework once ratified details structures on how to improve women education, leadership, and addresses issues of gender-based violence in the infant nation.

The UN Women organization funded and facilitated the drafting of the policy framework.
