Dr. Barnaba Marial government Spokesperson told press this morning in Juba that, investigations are underway to establish the facts about the bombardment.

“Yesterday at 4pm the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) bombed the Northern part of Jaw in Unity State. We don’t know the purpose why Sudan is bombing our territory,” Dr. Marial said.

“We strongly condemn this belligerent attitude of the Republic of Sudan by conducting an aerial bombardment in our territory,” he added.

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) exclusively confirmed the incident. However, declined to unveil details as it said the bombing took place in one of the areas the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHLIP) considers “contested”.

This is the latest aggressive attacks launched by Sudan after several others along the border areas despite signing a cooperation agreement with Sudan last year in September.

The agreement had conditioned the two countries to use peaceful mechanisms to sort out their differences. This Sudan aggressive act portrays the latest disrespect to the agreement from her side.

Early this week South Sudan has accused Sudan of mounting armed forces along border areas with South Sudan, an indication of massive plans of war. South Sudan had called for the immediate intervention of the international community.
