Seven died in a head-on collision on the R555 near Middelburg on Monday evening. The Mpumalanga Community Safety Department said a vehicle collided with a truck which ended killing seven passengers.
“All seven occupants, including two children (a toddler and an infant), died instantly,” spokesperson Joseph Mabuza said.
The incident took place on a road between Middelburg and Stofberg. According to Mabuza, a sedan lost control and collided with an oncoming truck when it tried to overtake another vehicle on a single lane. The occupants of the truck survived.
MEC Vusi Shongwe sent his condolences to the families of seven people.
“MEC Shongwe is shocked and emphasised that drivers must adhere to road regulations in order to avoid unnecessary accidents,” said Mabuza.
