The move comes after the State Minister of General Education and Instruction Angelo Chol Dong Wei presented the request to the Council.

The meeting was headed by the Deputy Governor who is also the State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Brig. Michael Chiangjiek Geay.

Speaking to the press after the council, the State Minister of Information and Communication, Culture, Youth and Sports Joseph Arop Malual said, “The Council of Ministers approved 120,000SSP to the State team who will participate in the forthcoming South Sudan School competition.”

Unity State has won several tournaments during the schools competition in Upper Nile State.

The council also discussed the issues of security issues in the state saying that the security situation is normal with exception of some areas at the border with Lakes and Warrap states but the authorities from the three states are working hard to tackle crime.

“A number of cattle were returned back by Misseriya to the authorities of Mayom County and we are doing the same to our neighbouring states,” Malual said.

The Governor of Unity State Honorable Taban Deng Gai in his report to the National Legislative Assembly Specialized Committee for Defence, Security and Public Order, the Specialized Standing Committee for Peace and Reconciliation and the Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Commission stated that more than 46, 299 cows were raided from Unity State by criminals from neighboring states and only 4,476 animals were recovered.

He said that a number of cattle were raided by the criminals from the state and more than 150 Unity State citizens have lost their lives along the border areas as a result of cattle raid attacks.

The governor also reported that since 2006, the state has managed to collect 11,102 firearms from the civilians
