Complaining of lack of electricity and laziness of some teachers, the pupils chased out the school administration officials which paralyzed activities.

Eye witnesses told Gurtong that on Tuesday police fired gunshots in the air to calm down the rioting pupils but the situation worsened on Wednesday morning.

The School Parents and Teachers’ Association (PTA) Chairperson, Ms. Ester Naija Iko confirmed the incidence, saying the pupils even maltreated the Deputy Head Teacher Mr. Ladu Wani Lado.

“The pupils forced the deputy head teacher to lie on a mat, covered him with mattresses and blankets under a burning sun heat,” he said.

The rioting pupils also rejected attempt for talks and denied teachers to enter the school saying they do not want negotiations until today.

Kapoeta East County Commissioner, Titus Lokwachuma who was rushing to the scene from the state capital’s Torit also confirmed the incidence and said he had directed the police to contain the situation.

This school accommodates over 380 pupils according to the School authorities.
