Drug dealer Frank Nabolisa is granted access to reading material and laptop/computer with internet to facilitate the criminal in completing his education. Nevertheless, the additional material will be provided under supervision.

The request was accepted by Judge Cathy Satchwell on Wednesday. Stachwell said Nabolisa must be given a reasonable time to study or to use the computer; however, it is to the discretion of the head of the Correctional Services centre to decide exactly how much time would be given.

“The applicant is to be allowed to receive reading material including a personal computer laptop and internet access, which he will use under supervision,” Judge Kathy Satchwell reportedly said.

The decision came in response to Nabolisa’s application against the minister of correctional services in the Johannesburg High Court for certain prisoner privileges. Nabolisa was initially sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment along with his accomplice Sheryl Cwele, the ex-wife of State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele. However, when they appealed their conviction and sentence, the Supreme Court of Appeals (SCA) in Bloemfontein increased the sentence to 20 years.
