The Kenyan president and his host president Salva Kiir discussed issues of cooperation and joint projects including the Lamu pipe line project.

Kenyatta said that the relationship between Kenya and South Sudan has been long standing based on social, economical and historical ties.

“It is the intension of my administration to deepen our relationship for the mutual prosperity of the people of South Sudan and Kenya,” he said.

The two presidents also said that there is need to work jointly to ensure peace in the region and a prosperous Somalia is in their best interest. Uhuru also said that there is need for the people of the two countries to interact in a free and stable environment, adding that the two countries are inseparable.

“A problem in South Sudan is a problem in Kenya and a problem in Kenya is a problem in South Sudan,” he said.

He however said road connection is important for the two countries and they have agreed to put a joint project of road running from Kenya and covering Narus, Kapoeta, Torit and Juba.

The tarmac road and a railway that the two governments plan to build will be a joint project of South Sudan and Kenya.

President Uhuru said they will tackle the projects one after another by the two countries for the economic viability of the projects.

According to President Kenyatta, the Lamu pipeline projects are a priority to the two governments and that the World Bank has already made the design for the road.

The two countries will also secure the funding for the projects jointly and that the projects will boost small and medium enterprises and also ensure security in the borders.

Kenyatta also called for respect of the cooperation agreement and the implementation matrix between Sudan and South Sudan, saying they will do their best to support it.
