Officials at the Ministry have reported unspecified number of deadpoultry across the state.
The officials told Gurtong that more than 1,000 chickens have died in the last four months, attributing the deaths to delays in delivery of vaccines from the Ministry Headquarters in Juba.
They also quote the lack of adequate refrigeration for the vaccines in Torit as another contributor to the outbreak.
The state residents have blamed the Ministry of failing to conduct massive vaccination campaigns across the counties, only concentrating in Torit County.
The Eastern Equatoria Animal Resources and Fisheries MinisterHassan Urbano confirmed the epidemic on Monday.
He acknowledged the delay in delivery of vaccines as well as insufficient personnel in the state.
In March this year, the Ministry announced plans to vaccinate poultry against Newcastle disease in Torit town.
Acting Director of Veterinary Services and Livestock DevelopmentQuinto Asaye Alex said the administration of vaccines to poultry in Torit County and leaving out the other counties contributed to the spread of the disease.
He encouraged poultry keepers to seek vaccination in a bid to stem the spread of the disease.
